Annual Meeting
Each year, South River EMC is pleased to offer an opportunity to all member-owners of the Cooperative to gather for fellowship and to hear of the business of their Cooperative. This event is the Annual Meeting of Members, which was held on April 16, 2009 at the Crown Arena and Theatre in Fayetteville.
Highlights of the 2009 Annual Meeting of Members
Entertainment
Entertainment was provided by Billy Scott and the Party Prophets. This award- winning 7-piece dance and show group played a wide variety of music including beach, blues, Motown, retro, funk and oldies, and are in constant demand.
Bazaar
We also had a vast array of vendors on hand to speak with you about their products and services. This year's bazaar was the largest yet with over 60 vendors turning out to talk to South River EMC members.
Kids' Korner
We aim to make the children’s entertainment better each year! The Kids’ Korner offers a safe, secure, fun place for you to leave your children (ages 4 to 12-years-old) while you enjoy the meeting. We had inflatable rides for the children. Each child received a goody bag at the end of the night.
Prizes
Of course, there was no shortage of door prizes. The grand prize was a used 2003 GMC pickup truck. Also, a goody bag was offered for all registered members. Bags included a heavy duty LCD flashlight and each registered member got $10 off their next electric bill.
Mr. Gary Holder of Spring Lake won a$100 Lowe’s Home Improvement card. His name was drawn from the Our Energy, Our Future cards that were completed that night..
Annette Blackman of Clinton is the new owner of the 2003 GMC pick up truck, awarded as the grand prize of the South River EMC Annual Meeting of Members. However, she actually won the prize by default.
During the meeting, the truck was awarded to Baptist Chapel Baptist Church, Inc. of Autryville. After consideration of the award, the church’s deacons voted not to claim the prize. The Cooperative was notified of this decision in a letter submitted by Pastor Alan E. Roberts.
The South River EMC Board of Directors opted that the name of the eventual winner should be drawn from the cards submitted during the meeting. In the interest of full transparency, Lawrence Buffaloe, chairman, South River EMC credentials committee, visited the Cooperative’s office and randomly drew Ms. Blackman’s registration card.
