Sandhills Gardening 7/1-10/1

The Consumer Horticulture Department of Cumberland County Cooperative Extension is pleased to announce a brand new series called “Gardening in the Sandhills”. This workshop will consist of eight (8) monthly workshops that will discuss what to do in your garden during the highlighted month. We will meet on the first Tuesday night of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Cooperative Extension Auditorium located at 301 E Mountain Dr, Fayetteville NC 28306.  Registration is required, and is due the Friday before each session. You may attend only the sessions you want. There will be a $5.00 registration fee for each session, or you can pre-register for all eight (8) sessions at a cost of $30.00. Registration fees are non-refundable, and cover the cost of materials and light refreshments.  Registration will be limited to the first 50 people who register for each session. Gardening in the Sandhills schedule:
July 6, 2010 @ 6 p.m. (Register by July 1st)
August 3, 2010 @ 6 p.m. (Register by July 30th)
September 7, 2010 @ 6 p.m. (Register by September 3rd)

N.C. Symphony 7/2

Associate Conductor Sarah Hicks leads the North Carolina Symphony in a free Independence Day celebration, July 2. A rousing concert lineup highlights patriotic favorites and show business staples ranging from “Moon River” to selections from Porgy and Bess and West Side Story. The concert takes place in Fayetteville’s Festival Park on Friday, July 2, at 8:00 p.m. and features a spectacular fireworks finale.  This concert is supported in part by Reed-Lallier Chevrolet and the Arts Council of Fayetteville and Cumberland County. Food Collection 7/3

During the annual Hope Mills 3rd of July parade, First Baptist Church of Hope Mills will be pushing shopping carts down Main Street collecting canned goods/non perishable food items for the Alms House.  The parade begins at 10:00am.  We need everyone’s help feeding those less fortunate.  THANK YOU!!! Place: Lumberton Senior High School football stadium
Entertainment/Extra: Gold Rush will be the band for the evening playing all night off and on starting at 7:40pm. Also food will be available provided by the Lumberton HS marching band.

July 5th Closings

Cumberland County Government offices will be closed for the Independence Day Holiday on Monday, July 5. This includes all public libraries, as well as all solid waste landfills and container sites.  If you wish to return any library materials, please use the book drops located outside all library locations. Items may be renewed on the library Web site at www.cumberland.lib.nc.us or by calling (910) 223-0431.

City of Fayetteville administrative offices and recreation centers are closed Monday, July 5 in observance of Independence Day. FAST buses will not operate Monday, July 5.

There is no trash, yard waste or recycling collection that day. Monday’s trash will be collected Tuesday, July 6. Recycling will be picked up Monday, July 12. There is no yard waste collection Tuesday, July 6, either, because all crews will be picking up trash. Monday and Tuesday’s yard waste will be picked up Monday, July 12 and Tuesday, July 13, respectively.  Larger recycling carts are available through the City for those who may need one.
