Master of Disaster

South River EMC is partnering with the American Red Cross to place a Masters of Disaster kit in each primary, elementary and middle school in its area before the beginning of the 06-07 school year.

Masters of Disaster teaches students about disaster safety and helps teachers meet their required objectives as well. Each Masters of Disaster Curriculum Kit contains ready-to-go lesson plans, activities and demonstrations on disaster-related topics that teachers can incorporate within core subject areas such as language arts, math, science and social studies. The Masters of Disaster curriculum is aligned with the National Education Standards and supplements the lessons teachers are already teaching.

Each kit has lessons on general disaster preparedness, hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, lightning, earthquakes and facing fear. If you would like to know more about the kits, please visit www.redcross.org/disaster/masters/.
