News1/7/2010 Energy Saving Rebates Pay Members For EfficiencySouth River EMC is offering Cooperative members new ways to save in 2010, with two new rebate programs. The first is a high efficiency heat pump rebate. Energy Star qualified heat pumps have a higher seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) and heating seasonal performance factor (HSPF), which makes them about 8 percent more efficient than standard new models and 20 percent more efficient than what you may have in your home currently. Replacing old heating and cooling equipment with an Energy Star qualified heat pump can cut energy bills by nearly $200 annually. South River EMC is offering members that install a high efficiency heat pump (15 SEER or higher) a $200 to $300 rebate, depending on the type of unit. However, members replacing a heat pump will not receive a rebate if the current unit is higher than SEER 13. The second rebate is for refrigerator freezer turn-ins, which gives members $50 for recycling a secondary refrigerator or freezer. Older refrigerators and freezers are large energy users and can cost from $13 to $16 monthly. Recycling that refrigerator or freezer will save members $166 to $194 on their electric costs annually. Members are responsible for making arrangements to get the unit to a qualified recycling center. Complete program details, as well as the Cooperative’s other rebate programs, can be found on South River EMC’s Web site, www.sremc.com/energysavingprograms.aspx, or by calling 910-230-2982. |
