Ice Causes Sunday Morning Outage in Sampson

 

A couple thousand members of South River EMC are experiencing a Sunday morning power outage.
 
A problem was the result of a large transmission pole in Sampson County that broke during the night because of the weight of ice accumulation on the power lines.
 
Work to replace the pole bagan at 11 a.m. and lasted about three hours. Electric service to the two affected substations in the Piney Green and Halls areas of Sampson County and affects nearly 2,300 members.
 
“We understand this was an inconvenience for those affected, we worked to get the power on as soon as possible,” said South River EMC CEO and Executive Vice President Buddy G. Creed. “Replacing a pole of this size takes time and care to ensure the work is performed safely and efficiently. We are fortunate that this storm did not cause more outages than the few hundred we had Saturday and then this pole.”
 
South River EMC is a member-owned electric cooperative which provides electric products and services to over 42,000 homes, farms and businesses in parts of Sampson, Harnett, Cumberland, Johnston and Bladen counties.
