South River Electric Membership Corporation crews have been hard at work restoring outages since about 3 a.m.

 

The cause of the outages is attributed mostly to branches breaking under the weight of the snow and falling into the power lines. Additionally, high electric load has caused some of the outage issues.

 

About 8,000 South River EMC members across a five county area have experienced early-morning outages. Crews will continue to work until all electric service is restored.

 

South River EMC is a locally-owned and operated electric cooperative, which provides electric service to 42,000, farms and businesses in parts of Harnett, Cumberland, Sampson, Johnston and Bladen counties.
