Local 4-H Agencies Receive Funds From Cooperative Golf Tournament

For over a century children and young adults have recited and lived by the 4-H pledge: I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service and my health to better living for my club, my community, my country and my world.

4-H agents from Harnett, Sampson and Cumberland counties each received a check for $2,030 from South River EMC at the Cooperative’s July meeting of the board of directors.

The donations were proceeds from the Cooperative’s annual 4-H Superball Golf Tournament, which was held on May 6 at Cypress Lakes Golf Course in Hope Mills.

Over 100 players showed up to lend support for the 4-H as well as enjoy a day on the links. The 18- hole championship course accommodated 27 teams who generously paid to support local 4-H programs.

A four-man team representing ElecTel Cooperative Federal Credit Union took first place honors. The team players were Greg Daniels, Tim Eisel, Scott Saff and Doug Browne. Second place went to the Carolina Dielectric team of Robin Blanton, Monty Monsinger, Reno Coleman and Kyle Blanton. Morris McClelion, Mike Adcock, Dal Langston and Tom Haeck from Central EMC in Sanford took third place honors.

Dorman Cadillac GMC, Inc. graciously provided a truck for a hole-in-one prize, as well as $25 Callaway gift card for each golfer. Upon completion of play, all golfers were treated to a chicken dinner. Half chickens were donated by the House of Raeford and the Mount Olive Collegiate FFA. 4-H volunteers and South River EMC employees provided manpower and desserts.

South River EMC is a locally-owned and operated electric cooperative, which provides electric service to 42,000 homes, farms and businesses in parts of Harnett, Cumberland, Sampson, Johnston and Bladen counties.
