In 2000, South River EMC established the Power Source Volunteers, or PSV. The PSV is a group of volunteers who work on behalf of the Cooperative as goodwill ambassadors in the community to enhance South River EMC's ongoing public relations efforts. Each year they hold fundraising events which benefit students in the South River EMC service area through scholarships, as well as hosting giveaways, such as food baskets, to members.
The Volunteers are comprised of a member representing each directorate district within the Cooperative's service area. The members of the Power Source Volunteers are; Terry Wimbly, chairman; Betty Amos, vice-chairman; Janice Norris, secretary; Richard Barnhill, treasurer; Dixie Coats; Brenda Tyndall; Vicky Walker; Iris Lucas; Janice Edwards; and Lynda Creed. Catherine O'Dell and Kathy McPhail are the cooperative representatives in the group.
Each year the Power Source Volunteers create four beautiful baskets for members to register to win. The baskets came complete with all the goodies for either the Thanksgiving or Easter meal, a $50 gift card for your meat selection, as well as a credit on your electric account. The Easter recipients for 2011 were Roger McDougald of Bunnlevel and Thomas Hair of Fayetteville.
