Power Source Volunteers

In 2000 South River EMC established the Power Source Volunteers. The Power Source Volunteers is a group of volunteers who work on behalf of the Cooperative as goodwill ambassadors in the community to enhance South River EMC's ongoing public relations efforts.

The Volunteers are comprised of a member representing each directorate district within the Cooperative's service area. The members of the Power Source Volunteers are; Dixie Jordan, chairman; Joanne Starling, vice-chairman; Allan Becker, treasurer; Janice Norris, secretary; Iris Lucas; Gwen Edwards; Janice Edwards; Terry Wimbly; Betty Amos; Avanell Shatterly and Lynda Creed. Catherine O'Dell and Kathy McPhail are the cooperative representatives in the group.

The Power Source Volunteers have teamed with the United Way of Harnett County to hold an annual Oyster Roast. This event was held for the first time on March 21, 2002. The attendance was great and the event is expected to grow each year!

In addition to the Oyster Roast, the Volunteers have held several fundraising events. They currently are selling South River EMC Historical Afghans.

Most recently the Power Source Volunteers held a raffle for a beautiful hand-crocheted Christmas afghan, which was donated by Terry Wimbly. The Volunteers raised nearly $400 on the raffle. The money raised from this raffle was used to sponsor a Christmas basket drawing at each South River EMC office. The baskets contained a $25 Food Lion gift card, all the trimmings for a Christmas dinner, a special Christmas ornament and a $50 credit on each winner's South River EMC bill. Over 500 members signed up for the baskets and the winners were Lena Williams, of Erwin, and Anthony Wright, of Fayetteville.
