Community College Scholarships

South River EMC offers scholarships to members, or dependents of members, who choose to attend one of the local community colleges. Scholarships are for $500 a year and are available at Johnston Community College, Fayetteville Technical College, Central Carolina Community College and Sampson Community College. One scholarship is awarded per school per academic year. Interested parties should contact the Financial Aid office at their community college for an application. Power Source Volunteer Scholarships

The Power Source Volunteers, or PSV, are offering three college scholarships for South River EMC members and their children.The PSV will award one $1000 and two $500 scholarships in the spring of 2010.

Factors considered in granting scholarships will include: character, moral standards, citizenship, past and present academic performance, letters of recommendation, statements of career goals and qualifications and extra-curricular activities.

The following stipulations are required of applicants:

  1. Must live in a home, which receives electric service from South River EMC.
  2. A candidate must have a recommendation from either his or her high school principal, guidance counselor or teacher. Non-traditional students or transfers must provide a letter from their work supervisor or community college advisor.
  3. Candidates must apply no later than January 22, 2010.
  4. Candidates must have taken the SAT and submit scores with application.

Scholarship applications are available at either South River EMC office. You can also download a copy of the scholarship requirements and an application from below. You can have a scholarship application sent to you by calling South River EMC at 892-8071 or sending an e-mail request to sremc@sremc.com.

The scholarship committee of the Power Source Volunteers will coordinate the scholarship applications and qualifications. A third party committee representing the North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation will determine final recipients.

The Power Source Volunteers are a volunteer committee comprised of members of South River EMC . The committee members are dedicated to serving the cooperative through community activities and goodwill.

Gwen B. Price and Katie Bunch Scholarships

Students attending the Rural Electric Youth Tour are eligible to win the $2500 Gwen B. Price Scholarship and the $2000 Katie Bunch Memorial Scholarship. These scholarships are awarded annually at the North Carolina Electric Cooperative's Annual Meeting of Members in Raleigh.

These scholarships were established by the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives Volunteers' Committee to aid young people who have limited financial resources and have exhibited outstanding scholastic and leadership abilities in their quest for a college education.

Kesler Butler Memorial Scholarship

The Kesler Butler Memorial Scholarship is a $1000 annual scholarship for students who attend North Carolina State University. The student must be a member, or child of a member, of South River EMC. For details and an application visit the office of the Registrar at NC State University.
